Job Summary:
The General Manager of Commercial will lead the transformation of our grocery retail business, overseeing grocery buying, category management, demand planning, and supplier relationship management. This strategic role requires a results-driven leader with deep expertise in the Malaysian grocery landscape. You will optimize product assortments, drive supply chain efficiency, and ensure product availability across our retail network.
Key Responsibilities:
Grocery Buying & Category Management:
- Develop and execute category strategies for sales growth and market share.
- Oversee grocery buying, ensuring a competitive product assortment, pricing, and availability.
- Lead regular category reviews to assess performance, identify gaps, and optimize pricing and product assortment strategies.
- Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify emerging trends, competitor activities, and consumer preferences, translating insights into actionable category innovations.
Demand Planning & Inventory Optimization:
- Lead demand planning with accurate forecasting to minimize stockouts and waste.
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to enhance product flow and reduce lead times.
- Oversee planogram development to optimize product placement, maximizing shelf efficiency and category performance.
Supplier & Vendor Relationships:
- Build strategic partnerships with suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and exclusive ranges.
- Monitor supplier performance through KPIs, ensuring high quality and timely deliveries.
- Commercial & Financial Management:
- Drive category profitability and achieve financial targets, with full P&L responsibility.
- Conduct financial analysis of margins, promotions, and vendor terms to maximize ROI.
- Manage budgets and forecasts to align with financial goals.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Collaborate with marketing, operations, and supply chain teams to execute category strategies and promotions.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing commercial team, fostering innovation and accountability.
- Any other related tasks assigned by management as and when is needed.
Qualification & Experience Requirements:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree or master in marketing or business administration.
- Results driven, with 8 years experience in merchandising , sales or marketing management, and people management.
- Possess a strategic mindset with strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to converse in multiple languages.
- Effective team player with the capacity to collaborate with a diverse group of individuals at all levels.
- Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing talents.
